Clinicians highly recommend the Protekt Aire 8000BA for bariatric patients because it effectively redistributes pressure away from high-contact areas while circulating air to the mattress surface. This circulation keeps the user’s skin cool and dry, which helps improve blood flow, promotes healing of existing wounds, and prevents the formation of new ulcers.
The Protekt Aire 8000BA mattress features two layers of air cells. The bottom layer maintains a constant inflation, ensuring patient safety during a power outage, while the top layer can be adjusted for either static or alternating pressure. When in static mode, patient transfers are facilitated, making them easier.
The mattress features a seat inflate setting that increases airflow to the center portion by 20% to prevent bottoming out. Users can select from four alternating pressure cycle times—10, 15, 20, or 25 minutes—depending on the level and duration of therapy required. There is a lockout function on the controls that prevents tampering with the mattress settings. Additionally, the system includes three alarms to notify both the caregiver and patient of low pressure, a power outage, or a malfunction in the alternating pressure function. An emergency CPR pull tab is also available to quickly release air from the mattress.
The mattress has a breathable, low-friction, quilted top cover for user comfort, along with a pillow top that helps keep the head and neck stable in alternating mode.
